While I don't agree, it makes more sense to say that people who talk about narcissistic abuse are "stigmatizing" narcissists. Here's my take: Stating that talking about narcissistic abuse stigmatizes narcissists misses the mark. The true victims of stigma are those who have endured the trauma of narcissistic abuse. Survivors face disbelief, blame and judgment when they speak out about their experiences. Framing the conversation around the potential stigma against narcissists overlooks the power dynamics at play in abusive relationships. Narcissists are adults, they have agency and the option to seek help for their behaviors. While SOME narcissists have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences it does not absolve them of responsibility for their actions. The priority in MY conversations about narcissistic abuse will be on amplifying the voices of survivors raising awareness about the dynamics of abuse and providing resources for healing and recovery. Narcissism isn't a choice. But abuse is a choice. Are there narcissists who are not abusive? It's possible. What sets non-abusive narcissists apart from abusive ones is primarily how they manage and express their traits. I don't hold out for change, and I don't encourage victims to either. Focus on yourself. Again: I focus the conversation around the victim or survivor, not the abuser. #traumabond #traumabondrecovery #abusiverelationship #toxicrelationship #narcissist #narcissism #liar #manipulation #gaslighting #abuserecovery #rebuilding #selfworth #devaluation #stigma

Sure the potential for improvement exists but it's crucial to understand the complexity of the process. The first step is their admission that they have a problem, they know they are hurting you and they want to do better. That's usually the first problem. The truth is, can they change isn't the right question. It's WILL they? It's do you have the energy for this ride? narcissists tend not to acknowledge their behaviors as problematic which hinders any PROGRESS. They struggle with empathy and understanding other people's emotions. They tend not to have a commitment to growth. #traumabond #traumabondrecovery #abusiverelationship #toxicrelationship #narcissist #narcissism #liar #powerandcontrol #rebuilding #selfworth #change
