Raise your hands if you’ve ben personally victimized by a delayed flight, lost baggage faulty wifi, or non-refundable cancelled flights 🙋🏼♀️ Well, I have some good news: The DOT (under pete buttegieg) passed a massive new rule that would crack down on airlines & make flying easier for consumers. I was researching this new airline rule and instead of just giving you the information, I wanted to let you know when it *actually* went into effect. Unfortunately for consumers, 4 lawmakers (Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), and Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Wash.) were pushing back on the rule getting enacted, in the way it was written (which some of criticized is too harsh on airlines). So, as of now, this massive rule should go into effect October 28, 2024. Buuuuuuuut some of these politicians might try to change it before that happens. 😵💫 So, as with all things, if you want change — go make it happen! Call/write your senator (google their name & contact). 🖊️🇺🇸 And, while you’re here, friendly reminder to be kind to all customer service professionals. They don’t make the rules, they just have to deal with what they’re given and probably hate them too. 🙂 #lifehack #airline #lifeadvice #flying #travel #airport #airline #airplane #travelhack #moneyhack #DOT #airlinerule #petebuttigieg #economy #inflation #breakingnews #congress

If you work in the U.S., you probably saw “breaking news: FTC bans non-competes” last week in the news. 💥 This is a BIG DEAL. Non-competes have stifled employees options when it comes to finding new jobs. 🤑 (I wanted to wait a few days for the dust to settle before making a video on it—so here you go!) Although non-competes are rarely enforced, they affect ~30 million American workers from hopping to new opportunities, or starting new companies of their own. The ironic thing is, non-competes are kinda anti-capitalist. Capitalists want more freedom in the market, it encourages more competition and therefore innovation (*cue bald eagle caw here*). So get outta here w those anti-American non-competes 👋 we’re not afraid of a little competition!! So the FTC move was kinda anti-anti competition lol. This is a huge win for American workers and innovation. Some big biz owners might be shakin in their boots (but it’ll be fine yall). However, the U.S. chamber of commerce (basicalllllly the country’s biggest business lobby) has already sued the FTC being like “you can’t do that!” and so now it miiiiight get tied up in a legal battle. So we will see. 👀 #ftc #noncompetes #nda #corporate #career #careeradvice #careertiktok #jobsearch #jobsearch #breakingnews

Get your pencils out, class is in session! ✏️ Ah, one of my favorite internet rumors. Bonuses are NOT taxed at “40%” (I have no clue where that number came from lol). Bonuses are considered “supplemental income” which means they are taxed at the same rate as your salary. However, there is a reason why people *feel* like their bonuses are taxed higher and that’s because companies may withhold more for taxes (but you’ll eventually get this money back!). There are two ways companies withhold your taxes on a bonus: Percentage Method: the employer gives the bonus & withholds taxes at a flat 22% rate (unless your bonus was over $1 million, then it’s 37%) Aggregate Method: the employer gives the bonus with your normal paycheck & uses the total amount to calculate withholding The aggregate method can bump you into the next tax bracket for a hot sec, and that’s why it can ~feel~ like you’re getting taxed so much more on your bonus. But you’re not! Same as salary. Which option is better? Well, it depends on your state, filing status, deductions, tax bracket, etc. Websites like intuit, nerwallet & the IRS all have federal bonus calculators you can use. Okay, the lesson for today bye 😀 #bonus @NerdWallet @Intuit TurboTax #salary #tax #taxes #taxrefund #corporate #job #paycheck #payday #money #invest #personalfinance #careertiktok #careeradvice #myth

💸 Wait, what is a “tax refund”? [btw, in my bio: get a $70 discount and use code ERIN30 for an additional $30 off!] If you paid taxes throughout the year (ex: your paycheck), there’s a good chance you paid a little too much. A tax return is when the government says, “oops, you actually don’t owe that much—here’s a little refund!” So when you get that check in the mail, which can be anywhere from a few cents to a few thousand dollars, it can be exciting BUT, this can be a great opportunity to practice financial literacy + self care! My advice? 💭 Take 80-90% and put it towards something “responsible” like paying down high interest debt, loans, and building your emergency fund. Take 10-20% and spend it on something that’ll make you really happy :) like a super cool new smartphone… 😉 You got this! 👏🏼 #OnePlusPartner #OnePlus12R @OnePlus USA
