Did you know that there are 5 types of job interview questions? Standard, Behavioral, Personality, Brain Teaser and Technical. Questions like: What are the last 5 songs you listened to? If you were an animal, what types of animal would you be? If you wrote and autobiography, what would you title it? These are personality questions and they are appropriate and have a time and place for certain jobs. Personality questions reveal who you are and often recruiters ask these questions because they want to ask you something that you haven’t prepared for and they want to see if you can think on your feet. They want to get to know you, what makes you tick and why you do what you do. However, questions like “What do you do for fun?” “Can you tell me something not on your resume.” And “What are your hobbies?” are all inappropriate. A hiring manager should never ask you what you do outside of work, what your hobbies are and if you are married. If you get the sense that they are asking you to lull you into oversharing or telling them personal things, say this- “I feel as though we have had a very thorough conversation and I think I have told you everything that qualifies me for this position. Do you have any other questions for me.” “No, there isn’t anything else I’d like to share.” Or if you feel as though there are things that you haven’t talked about in interview or on your resume then here is an example of a great answer, “One aspect of my background that I didn’t include on my resume is my performance and improvisational experience. Throughout high school and college, I was in at least one play or musical a year, and since college I’ve been part of a comedy troupe that posts sketches on YouTube and TikTok and puts on improv shows. Earlier, you were talking about how the social and content teams want to put out more videos but you were struggling to get employees to consistently volunteer to be on camera. As a former—and current—theater kid, I’ve got you covered. I’m comfortable on camera—whether it’s scripted or more off-the-cuff—and eager to try out anything. I’ve also learned a lot about what resonates with online audiences, so I can offer some input there.” For a full list of interview questions to prepare for get an Interviewology Profile and discover your interview style and nail your job interview #howtoanswerinterviewquestions #Jobinterivew #Corporatejobs #interviewpreparation
