Which countries were never colonized by Europeans? The first on the list is Thailand which used to be called the Kingdom of Siam. The kingdom was strategically positioned between the British Raj on the west and French Indochina on the east and acted as a sort of buffer between the two European powers and neither of them wanted the other to take control over it. However, in order to evade a war with French Indochina, Thailand had to cede Laos to the French in 1893. Next, we have Liberia the small country on the West African coast that escaped European colonialism due to the United States' interest in the region. The U.S. or more specifically the ACS (American Colonization Society) planned to use this Land to resettle free slaves, as they believed that resettling the slaves in Africa would address social and racial issues in the United States. Moving on, Japan was also never colonized by European powers, and this can be attributed to several reasons. Firstly, Japan's population was highly homogeneous and united, which meant that European powers could not exploit any divisions between the Japanese people, as they did in Africa. Therefore, if they had desired to colonize Japan, they would have needed a massive invasion force, which was just not feasible. Additionally, the Japanese were already a colonial power themselves, having controlled territories such as Taiwan, Korea, and Manchuria. #maps #history #geopolitics

Why does the United States have a secret plan to steal Pakistan's nukes? The United States has long been concerned about the potential instability of Pakistan, fearing that some of its 170 nuclear weapons could fall into the hands of extremists. Pakistan struggles with militant groups, particularly in the Waziristan region along the Durand Line, which separates Pakistan from Afghanistan. Extremists often use Pakistan as a place of retreat when the situation in Afghanistan becomes volatile, but this often results in Pakistan becoming a target and experiencing periods of chaos. And there have been a couple of close calls in the past where extremists attempted to get their hands on a Pakistani nuclear weapon, which led the U.S., a major ally of Pakistan, to provide $100 million in military aid to help secure their Nukes better. However, Pakistan does not allow the U.S. to monitor how the money is spent, fearing that the U.S. may attempt to steal its nuclear weapons since U.S. officials have publicly stated that securing Pakistan's nuclear weapons is a top priority due to the ongoing issues with extremists. Moreover, the U.S. military has special personnel in Central Asia who continuously train to infiltrate Pakistan's nuclear facilities to capture or dismantle its nuclear weapons. So it's not like Pakistan has nothing to worry about. However, In an attempt to hide its nuclear weapons from the Americans, Pakistan employs the insane tactic of transporting its nukes in ordinary delivery vans with minimal security which makes them extremely vulnerable to potential ambushes, which in turn only fuels U.S. concerns even further. #maps #history #geopolitics
