00:23What if your car could change its color? @BMW This car is the i5 Flow Nostokana, created by BMW engineer Stella Clarke and her team, a tribute to the art of Esther Mahlangu The color-changing tech is made out of E Ink (yes, the stuff in your kindle!) A bit more context on why I’ve gotten so obsessed with E Ink lately… I’ve been feeling tired of looking at bright screens all day, and started experimenting with E Ink screens. For the past few months, I’ve been using an E Ink phone and computer monitor for part of the day, and it’s been so refreshing. It lets me use tech in a less stimulating and dopamine-addicting way - a way that feels healthier and more sustainable. But E Ink technology is still not that widely understood or adopted… So when BMW let me check out the E Ink car, I was so excited to see it with my own eyes. Massive respect to BMW engineer Stella Clarke and her team for pushing E Ink technology forward in such an innovative way.
01:16If you want to use AI in your work but don't know where to start - Here's 3 beginner-friendly ideas (instructions below) 1. Design your logo - using ChatGPT Did you know you can upload photos to give it inspiration, and tweak the logo by giving it feedback? Make sure you’re using GPT 4 (as version 3.5 doesn’t support DALL-E image generation) 2. Reshoot your photography - using RunwayML On runwayml.com, go to Images > Edit Images > Backdrop Remix This will automatically generate new backdrops for your product photos. It works best with products that have simple, defined outlines 3. Change the aspect ratio - using Photoshop This feature is in Adobe Photoshop 2023 or later. Simply change the canvas size to the aspect ratio you’d like, and select the blank areas. Once selected, the “Generative Fill” feature will pop up - and you have the option to type in a prompt for what you’d like filled in. When changing aspect ratio, I usually leave the text prompt blank, as it does a pretty good job of filling in based on the visual context. #ad Created using my DELL Precision 5860 workstation The DELL Women’s Entrepreneur Network is the go-to resource for technology advice with start-up advisors, webinars, and helpful articles https://dwen.com/en-us/tech-hub/ On-demand Tech Talks on AI: Why startups need to prioritize GenAI use cases to drive long-term growth https://dwen.com/en-us/why-startups-need-to-prioritize-genai-use-cases-to-drive-long-term-growth/ How to use GenAI to drive innovative thinking and gain a competitive edge https://dwen.com/en-us/how-to-use-genai-to-drive-innovative-thinking-and-gain-a-competitive-edge/
00:44Analog 3D effect 🎞️ I got a polaroid instax camera over christmas and it’s been a lot of fun playing with it Thanks Barrett Mahoney for helping me shoot these
00:10See tips below if you don’t have all those cameras… (Thanks @insta360_official for letting me borrow them for a day) For this video we put the cameras on drying racks and shot in slow mo (4K 120FPS) on the @insta360 Ace Pro and pulled the same frame from each camera. Then we fed all those images into @Luma AI to generate the gaussian splat If you don’t have all those cameras, see my pinned post - you can achieve a similar effect at your next family/friend gathering with a bunch of smartphone cameras (though results won’t be quite as crisp) — Btw does anyone else get in their head and procrastinate on posting what they make? Some of the best advice I ever got from my therapist was ‘pay attention to what gives you energy and try to do more of that’ And I realized… Creating feels rewarding. But posting feels draining. At first, posting feels amazing - the validation from the likes is exciting, but it’s an illusion. It’s a sugar high that disappears and leaves you wanting more. So I’ve spent the past year challenging myself to spend less time looking at stats. I used to be completely hooked and glued to it, refreshing constantly for the view count. Now, I still give myself a bit of time after posting to reply to some comments, but then I force myself to put away my phone - Right after I post something on social media, I try to do one of these things - - Go for a walk outside and leave my phone at home - Have calls/meetings scheduled for right after the post, so I’m mentally occupied with something else - Put my phone on airplane mode and work on shooting/editing my next video These things get me to spend more time in creation mode and less time in posting mode (aka addiction mode) This basketball video…we made back in November, but I procrastinated and procrastinated on posting it, and am finally getting around to it :) shot by @karenxcheng producer @jonathangaurano basketball players @bruhitsjvn @kylegeeofficial editing @skythomasgidge bts @_theboon_ inspired by @kodykurth @arata_fukoe cameras @insta360 Ace Pro app @luma_ai
00:14Origami world tutorial 🎵 @Artlist.io Detailed instructions below - ORIGAMI EFFECT Advanced version - We used an open source tool, AnimateDiff @nathan_shipley_vfx recommendations: - @enigmatic_e YouTube - search for his tutorial video “AnimateDiff Comfy UI Tutorial - Using ControlNets and More” - Search latentvision YouTube - his tutorials on ComfyUI and IPAdapter Beginner Version - For an easy non-technical origami effect, you can try @runwayapp - it’s a button press to apply various filters like an origami effect. However, result won’t be as fine-tuned as AnimateDiff MUSIC I find that music can make or break a video - in the past I’ve tested uploading the same video with different music tracks, and I’ve had one version go viral while the other flopped. So I put a lot of effort into pairing the right music track… Here’s my process - 1. I think about the vibe of the video. Is it playful, powerful, mysterious, peaceful, etc 2. Then I find songs with that vibe (under the “mood” filter in @artlist.io) and listen to a bunch of options under that vibe. I’ll usually download several options and pull them into my editing timeline, and then pick the one that feels right 3. Finally I line up the music track with the timing - I find an interesting moment in the video and line it up with a key moment in the song Main Track: “Toy Symphony” by Nir Maimon from @artlist.io Other tracks in this tutorial: “Homemade Apple Pie” by Jamie Bathgate, “An Issue” by Lalinea from @artlist.io I put together some of my favorite tracks here: karenx.com/music Director @karenxcheng Client @artlist.io VFX @nathan_shipley_vfx using AnimateDiff Producer @noellexms Music: Toy Symphony by Nir Maimon from @artlist.io SFX by @likuidaudio using @artlist.io
00:59Origami world 😌 Music from @Artlist.io Collab with @nathan_shipley_vfx I’ll share behind-the-scenes of our process tomorrow :) Director @karenxcheng Client @artlist.io VFX @nathan_shipley_vfx using AnimateDiff Producer @noellexms Music: Toy Symphony by Nir Maimon from @artlist.io SFX by @likuidaudio using @artlist.io Nathan and I have spent the past month creating this video, and I picked out the track 'Toy Symphony' from @artlist.io for it. Coincidentally, Artlist reached out to us at the same time, and we were lucky to get this video sponsored by @artlist.io :) Shoutout to them for giving us complete creative freedom on this piece - that’s always a luxury when it comes to client work 🙌 I was excited about this collab because long before Artlist ever reached out to me, it was already my go-to for music tracks - especially for client work when you can’t use IG reels audio for copyright reasons. I put together a list of my recommended Artlist tracks here: karenx.com/music
